Dr. Barbara Nath-Wiser, who studied medicine and graduated from University of Vienna – Austria in 1977, and specialized in Homeopathy. She has lived and worked as a practitioner in the Himalayan foothills north of India since 1984, where she founded Nishtha Rural Health Centre; a charitable countryside health centre. Fluent in Hindi, the local language, she continues to practice Homeopathy and to run an active community curriculum in Rakkar village. In 1998 she also founded Nishtha Rural Health Education & Environment Project. In this rural area, family access to health facilities is limited, particularly for the women and children who rarely venture out to seek medical help due to financial restraints, and the local government hospital is very far. Therefore Nishtha Centre provides for the poor and for those who would otherwise be unlikely to access medical care. Every year Barbara spends about 2 months in Austria raising the funds needed for the operations of the clinic.
