ANIMAL MAGIC! A rescue story…
There were over 200 cats seized from dire conditions of starvation and disease. Many didn’t make it. Nine ended up in my care and one was very critical. She had already been seen by one vet and was diagnosed with severe emacation, anemia and was recommend to be humanely euthanized as after 5 days she was not responding to the antibiotics and steroids she had been given. She came to my clinic and immediately when I offer her some food she dove for it! I knew immediately this cat had some life yet! Her blood work showed a hemocrit of less than 10% with elevated liver enzymes and bilirubin. My clinical findings were severe emaciatation, pale, weak, with tachycardia and with a grade 1 heart murmur. She had bilateral conjunctivitis and swollen submandibular lymph nodes. She had stage 3 dental disease. She had red urine. There was no obvious wounds evident and her abdomen palpated within normal limits. She was vomiting and had mild diarrhea. She was not eating on her own at least after the first bite. I could tell she was stubborn and mischevious but otherwise I didn’t have much to prescribe on…
